The Long Island Expressway (LIE as commonly referred) has High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes in both directions from, exit 32 to exit 64. The lane restrictions are in effect Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. through 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. During these hours the HOV lanes are reserved for buses and passenger vehicles with two or more occupants. Trailers and commercial vehicles are not permitted in the HOV lanes at any time. Clean Pass Vehicles are permitted to use the HOV lanes with a single occupant through New York Clean Pass program. You can visit the following website to get more information or to see if your vehicle qualifies for the program https://www.dot.ny.gov/programs/clean-pass.

Many people are charged with multiple traffic violations when they violate the rules of the HOV program. Some of the common violations are:

Failed to obey traffic control device VTL 1110(a)
Moved from lane unsafely VTL 1128(a)
Drove across hazard markings VTL 1128(d)
HOV less than min 1110(a)(h)

These violations can lead to points on your license, increased insurance rates, and the suspension or revocation of your driving privileges. It is important to fight your violations with an experienced Nassau County Traffic Violations Lawyer. Many times we are able to reduce points or eliminate them entirely. No one should ever plead guilty to a traffic offense without consulting with a lawyer.
